Check it out...it's the Fifth Annual LOVING DAY party this coming Sunday. In the scale of global human history, the period and ambient cultural norms regarding interracial romance that preceded the 1967 Court decision are pretty shameful, and even though we have come a long way, looking at the state of the world today, I believe that the message of love that transcends artificial boundaries is and will always be relevant. People come up with different reasons and ways to divide themselves up into competing groups, and hopefully those who bring a message of unity won't be silenced again and again. In the spirit of the modern day prophets, Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Malcolm X, John Lennon, Stevie Wonder (thank God he is alive), I celebrate love every day."I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... What is Loving Day?
Loving Day is an educational community project. The name comes from Loving v. Virginia (1967), the landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized interracial marriage in the United States. Loving Day celebrations commemorate the anniversary of the Loving decision every year on or around June 12th.
